Settings guide

Every setting in Lagu,
and what it changes.

What each switch does, where it starts, and when you might want to change it. Not every setting is on every device, so pick yours to see only the ones it has. Written for Lagu 0.15.0; Fire TV runs the Android TV app and Fire tablets the Android phone app, with the same settings.

Account and server

Desktop, iPhone and iPad: Settings › Plex. Android: the account card at the top of Settings, and Sources & Servers. TVs: Settings › Account.

Account

Shows who is signed in.

Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV
  • Your Plex name, your username, and a Plex Pass badge if your account has Plex Pass.
  • On Android, this card shows the server you are using and whether you own it or it is shared with you.

Server

Also shown as Switch Server, Your Servers

Switches Lagu to another Plex server on your account.

Default
The server you picked when you signed in. The first time on desktop, the first server you own.
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. If you have more than one Plex server, or someone has shared a server with you.

  • Lagu tries every way of reaching the server you pick, uses the one that answers, and reloads your whole library from it.
  • Desktop marks each server as owned or shared, and as local, remote or relay.
  • The server you switch to is remembered across restarts. If it is no longer on your account, Lagu falls back to the first server you own. Signing out forgets it.

Music libraries

Also shown as Sources, Libraries

Chooses which music libraries on your server Lagu shows.

Default
Every library on
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. If your server has a library you never listen to, such as audiobooks, switch it off.

  • Every library you leave on is combined in Artists, Albums and Songs.
  • Your preferred library is the one used where only one library fits: genres, folders, stats, stations and smart playlists. Picking a library that is switched off as preferred switches it back on.
  • On iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Android TV, at least one library has to stay on.
  • Lagu remembers these choices for each account and server.

Connection and Test connection

Shows how Lagu reaches your server, and checks that it can.

Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. If your library won’t load, press Test connection to see whether your server answers.

  • On desktop, iPhone and iPad the test says how many music libraries it found, or why it couldn’t reach the server.
  • The TVs answer Connected or Not reachable. Apple TV also says Not reachable when the server answers but has no music library.
  • Android shows the connection’s state all the time, with a Refresh connection button in place of the test.

Sign out

Signs you out of your Plex account on this device.

Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV
  • Playback stops and Lagu returns to the sign-in screen. Only iPhone and iPad ask you to confirm first.
  • Your queue, cached lyrics and Lagu’s own loudness measurements are cleared, because they belong to your account.
  • Your settings, downloads, scrobbling accounts and paired Remote devices stay on the device.
  • On Android TV, Fullscreen hints, your Guest DJ choice and your library choices are reset.

Appearance

Settings › Appearance. On the TVs, Home settings have their own Settings › Home, and Apple TV keeps Hide star ratings under Playback.

These change how Lagu looks. None of them changes what you hear.

Theme

Lagu’s overall look.

Default
Bloom on desktop and Apple TV. System on a new iPhone, iPad or Android install (Bloom if Lagu was installed before the choice arrived).
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV

When to change it. If you want a light or a dark look all the time, or want Lagu to follow your device.

  • Bloom is dark, on warm graphite. Bloom Light is light, on warm paper.
  • Auto on desktop, or System on phones, switches between the two with your device’s light and dark setting.
  • Apple TV also offers Forest and Daylight. Android TV has no theme choice.

Dynamic color

Lets the album art color the app while music plays.

Default
On
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Turn it off to keep Lagu in its own colors all the time.

  • The accent color (buttons, links, switches and highlighted text) and the soft glow behind the app take on the colors of the album that is playing.
  • The accent is checked for contrast, so text stays readable on any cover. Text and backgrounds never take the album’s color.
  • With nothing playing, Lagu uses its own colors.
  • On the TVs it also colors the visualizer on Now Playing.

Window colour

Tints the whole window, sidebar and player bar with the album’s color.

Default
On
Devices
Desktop · iPad

When to change it. Turn it off if you like the album color in the accent and glow but want a neutral window.

  • It needs Dynamic color. While Dynamic color is off, this switch is greyed out and keeps its setting.
  • On iPad it paints in landscape only.

Waveform seek bar

Draws the Now Playing seek bar in the shape of the track’s loudness.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Turn it on to see where a track gets loud or quiet, for example to find the chorus.

  • The shape comes from your Plex server’s loudness analysis, or from Lagu’s own measurement of the track. A track with neither keeps the rainbow seek bar.
  • On iPad it also appears in the player bar.

Game Mode

Quiets Lagu while you play a game.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop

When to change it. Turn it on before a game, so Lagu leaves your computer’s power for the game.

  • Animations stop, the album colors hold still, images load smaller, the visualizer turns off and background refreshes pause. Your music keeps playing.
  • You can also switch it from the tray menu or with a keyboard shortcut (press ? in Lagu for the list). It never turns on by itself.

Rating style

Stars or a heart for rating tracks.

Default
Stars
Devices
Desktop
  • A heart gives a track five stars in Plex. Tap it again to clear the rating.

Rating controls

Also shown as Show rating controls

Decides where rating controls appear.

Default
Everywhere
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Pick Not in lists for tidier song lists that still let you rate on Now Playing, or Nowhere if you never rate.

  • Not in lists takes the control off song rows and keeps it on Now Playing.
  • Nowhere removes it everywhere. On iPhone that includes the lock screen.
  • Your ratings stay as they are in Plex.

Hide star ratings

Hides the star rating on Now Playing.

Default
Off
Devices
Apple TV & Android TV
  • The TVs show ratings but don’t let you change them, so this only hides the stars.
  • On Apple TV it is under Playback.

Row density

Fits more songs on screen.

Default
Comfortable
Devices
iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Pick Compact if you browse long albums and want to see more of the list at once.

  • Compact tightens the space around track numbers and times. Nothing is removed from the row.
  • It applies to every song list and to Up Next.

Visualizer

Also shown as Choose Visualizer, Default Visualizer

Chooses what the Now Playing artwork area shows.

Default
Album artwork
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Pick a visualizer if you want the artwork area to move with the music.

  • Album Artwork, Spectrum, Radial, Tide, Orbit, Cover Flow, Oscilloscope and Trackprint. The TVs have all but Cover Flow.
  • Changing the visualizer on Now Playing changes this setting too. On Android, that is the only place to choose one.
  • Desktop shows album artwork while Game Mode is on, or when your system asks for reduced motion. iPhone pauses visualizers in Low Power Mode.
  • On Android TV, visualizers need microphone permission. The FAQ explains why.

Hide near-empty shelves

Keeps Home free of shelves with only one album.

Default
On
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Turn it off to see every shelf your server offers, however short.

  • Any shelf with fewer than two items is hidden, Recently Added and Newly Released included.
  • On the TVs, Recently Played always shows.

Collapsible sidebar

Lets you fold the sidebar down to a row of icons.

Default
On
Devices
Desktop

When to change it. Turn it off if you always want the full sidebar.

  • A button beside Settings folds and unfolds the sidebar. In a narrow window it starts folded.

Sound

Settings › Playback. On iPhone and iPad, Playback › Sound and Streaming Quality. The TVs have no equalizer.

Equalizer

Shapes the sound with a 10-band equalizer.

Default
Off, set to Flat
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android 9 and later

When to change it. Turn it on to add bass, tame harsh treble, or suit a pair of headphones.

  • Pick a preset (Flat, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Electronic, Hip-Hop, Acoustic, Vocal Boost, Bass Boost, Bass Reducer, Treble Boost or Loudness) or drag the ten bands yourself, from 32 Hz to 16 kHz. Each band and the Preamp go from 12 dB down to 12 dB up.
  • Save as… keeps your own curve as a preset, up to 12 per device. Reset goes back to Flat.
  • Lagu makes room for boosts by itself: it turns the music down by the curve’s highest point, and the line under the Preamp says how much (“Headroom −6.9 dB applied automatically”). So a boosted preset sounds a little quieter.
  • The Preamp moves the level up or down on top of that headroom. 0 is right for most people.
  • While the equalizer is on, a safety limiter catches any peak that would still distort.
  • On desktop, the equalizer doesn’t work while you play to a network speaker or a Cast device.

Headphone profile

Corrects your headphones’ sound with a measured profile. It sits inside the Equalizer.

Default
None
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Pick your headphones if they’re in the list, to hear them closer to neutral.

  • About 2,900 headphones, measured by AutoEq. Search for your model and star your favorites to keep them at the top.
  • Picking a profile turns the equalizer on and locks it to that curve, with the Preamp at 0: the automatic headroom already lowers the level the way the profile asks.
  • Unlock keeps the curve so you can adjust it. Clear puts back the equalizer you had before.

Output

Chooses which speakers or headphones Lagu plays through.

Default
System default
Devices
Desktop

When to change it. If you want Lagu on different speakers from the rest of your computer, for example a DAC while system sounds stay on your laptop speakers.

  • If the device you chose is unplugged, Lagu plays through the system default and tells you, then switches back when the device returns.
  • There is no exclusive or bit-perfect mode yet. Exclusive output on Windows is planned for 0.15.1.

Streaming quality

Chooses the quality Lagu streams at.

Default
Original
Devices
Desktop · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Pick a lower bitrate if your connection to the server is slow or you’re on a data cap.

  • Original plays the file as it is stored on your server. 320, 256, 192 and 128 kbps ask your server to convert the track to MP3 at that bitrate.
  • ALAC files stream as lossless FLAC under Original on desktop and Android TV, because the player there can’t decode ALAC.
  • The change applies from the next track. The one playing is never restarted.
  • Downloaded tracks always play from the downloaded file.
  • iPhone, iPad and Android choose separately for Wi-Fi and mobile data. See the next setting.

Wi-Fi and Mobile Data quality

Two streaming qualities: one for Wi-Fi, one for mobile data.

Default
Original for both
Devices
iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Lower Mobile Data if you have a small data plan, and keep Wi-Fi at Original.

  • The options and behavior are the same as Streaming quality above.
  • iPhone uses the Mobile Data choice on mobile data, on a personal hotspot and in Low Data Mode.
  • Android uses it on mobile data and on any Wi-Fi network marked as metered.

Loudness

Settings › Playback.

Some albums are mastered much louder than others. These settings keep the volume steady from one track to the next, so you aren’t reaching for the volume knob.

Loudness leveling

Plays every track at about the same loudness.

Default
On
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Turn it off if you want every track exactly as it was mastered.

  • Lagu uses the loudness analysis your Plex server has done, and aims for the same reference level Plex uses (−18 LUFS).
  • A quiet track is only turned up as far as it can go without distorting.
  • The volume is set before a track starts and never changes partway through it.
  • With it off, every track plays at its recorded level.
  • On desktop and Android it is unavailable while you play to a network speaker.

Level unanalyzed tracks

Levels tracks your Plex server hasn’t analyzed yet.

Default
On
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Turn it off if you only want leveling for tracks your server has analyzed, or want to keep measuring work off your device.

  • Your server’s own analysis always wins when it exists. Lagu only fills the gaps.
  • Lagu measures from audio it already has: your downloads, finished conversions, and the tracks loaded ahead of what you’re playing.
  • The first time an unanalyzed track plays, Lagu reads three short pieces of it (the opening and two points later on) and starts it at a measured level. The pieces can only turn a track down, never up, so a quiet intro can’t make it blast later.
  • If the pieces don’t arrive in time, the track starts about 8 dB down instead. That happens on a slow connection, while your server is converting the track, and for formats other than FLAC and MP3 until the track has been fully measured.
  • Either way, the volume is set before the track starts and doesn’t change partway through. The next play uses the better measurement.
  • On Wi-Fi or Ethernet, opening an album, playlist or artist page measures the tracks on screen in the background, and the next track in your queue is measured ahead, so your first tap is already leveled. Desktop always does this.
  • On mobile data, nothing is fetched for measuring unless Preload on cellular is on. With it off, a first play there starts about 8 dB down.
  • Measuring costs a few megabytes per track at most. Phones measure downloads in the background only while charging or playing, and never in Low Power Mode or Battery Saver.
  • The same measurement powers Smart fades and the waveform seek bar, offline too. Turning this off keeps what Lagu has already measured.

Level unanalyzed tracks (TV)

Plays tracks your Plex server hasn’t analyzed a little quieter, so they never come in too loud.

Default
On
Devices
Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Turn it off if your library is mostly analyzed and you’d rather hear the few remaining tracks at their recorded level.

  • The TVs don’t measure tracks themselves. Every play of a track without server analysis is turned down by about 8 dB, never up.
  • Once your Plex server analyzes the track, normal leveling takes over.

Preload on cellular

Loads upcoming tracks early on mobile data too, not only on Wi-Fi.

Default
Off
Devices
iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Turn it on if you have a generous data plan and want gapless playback, crossfades and leveling to work on mobile data the way they do on Wi-Fi.

  • On Wi-Fi and Ethernet, Lagu always loads the next one or two tracks ahead. This setting only adds mobile data.
  • iPhone and iPad: with it off, Lagu still loads one track ahead on mobile data so gapless and crossfade keep working. With it on, two. Low Data Mode keeps it at one either way.
  • Android: with it off, Lagu still loads one track ahead on mobile data so gapless and crossfade keep working. With it on, two, except while Data Saver is on.
  • It also decides whether Lagu fetches the short pieces it uses to level an unanalyzed track on mobile data.
  • Preloaded audio takes a limited amount of storage (up to 1 GB on Android) and is cleared when you sign out.
  • Desktop has no switch: it always loads ahead.

Crossfade and gapless

Settings › Playback.

Crossfade

Blends the end of one track into the start of the next.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Turn it on for playlists and shuffle, where a blend between unrelated songs sounds smoother than a gap.

  • Only tracks that finish on their own are blended. A skip you make yourself isn’t.
  • An album played in order and Repeat One always play without a blend, so a live album or a DJ mix keeps flowing.
  • The change applies from the next transition.
  • On desktop, keep Gapless playback on for album runs to play without gaps.
  • On Android, crossfade is unavailable while you play to a network speaker.

Crossfade length

Also shown as Crossfade Duration

How long the blend lasts, from 1 to 12 seconds. Shown while Crossfade is on.

Default
6 seconds on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. 5 on Android and Android TV. 4 on desktop.
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV
  • On the TVs, press left and right on the remote to change it.

Smart fades

Picks where each crossfade starts from the shape of the track. Shown while Crossfade is on.

Default
On
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Turn it off if you want every blend to start exactly the set length before the end.

  • Silence at the end of a track is skipped, so the next song doesn’t wait for it.
  • A track that ends suddenly or loudly gets a short fade of about 2.5 seconds in place of a hard cut.
  • A track with a short fade-out of its own starts blending where its fade-out begins, which can make the blend up to twice your set length.
  • It reads your Plex server’s loudness analysis, or Lagu’s own measurement where it has one. The TVs use the server’s analysis only. A track with neither gets a plain fade.

Gapless playback

Starts the next track the instant the current one ends.

Default
On
Devices
Desktop

When to change it. Leave it on. Turn it off only if you hear a problem at track changes.

  • When Crossfade is on, crossfades take precedence. Gapless covers every other change of track.
  • The other devices always play gapless when they aren’t crossfading, so they have no switch.

Queue and Now Playing

Settings › Playback. On iPhone and iPad, Playback › Now Playing.

Autoplay

Keeps playing similar music when your queue ends.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Turn it on if you want the music to carry on after the last track you picked.

  • When your queue is nearly done, Lagu adds tracks similar to what you played, then the artist’s popular tracks, then the artist’s station. The closest matches need your server’s sonic analysis, which comes with Plex Pass.
  • A station, a long playlist or the Guest DJ goes first, and Autoplay waits while Repeat is on.
  • On phones and TVs, turning it off removes the tracks it added.
  • You can also switch it from Up Next.

Guest DJ

Lets a DJ persona choose what plays next.

Default
DJ Off
Devices
Apple TV & Android TV (elsewhere, pick a DJ on Now Playing)

When to change it. Pick a persona when you want Lagu to steer the music for you.

  • Similar stays close to what is playing, Stretch Out takes adventurous turns, Contemporary keeps to the era, Groupie follows the current artist, and Gemini follows the sound one track at a time.
  • Every persona except Groupie needs Plex Pass sonic analysis. On a server without it they are greyed out. The Plex Pass table has the details.
  • With the DJ off, Autoplay still continues your queue if Autoplay is on.

Open Now Playing when you start music

Jumps to the full-screen player when you start something.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Turn it on if you always open Now Playing after pressing play.

  • Only when you start playback yourself in the app. A track change, Siri, CarPlay, Android Auto, the watch or a remote never opens it.

Show audio quality in lists

Adds each track’s format and bitrate to song lists.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Turn it on to see which tracks are lossless or high-resolution.

  • Now Playing always shows the quality.
  • On iPhone it shows in album, artist, collection and song lists.

Fullscreen hints

Shows which remote buttons do what when the fullscreen visualizer opens.

Default
On
Devices
Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Turn it off once you know the buttons.

  • The hint goes after about 4 seconds, or as soon as you press a button.

Confirm before leaving Lagu

While music plays, Back on the tab bar asks before leaving Lagu.

Default
Off
Devices
Apple TV

When to change it. Turn it on if you often press Back once too many and land on the Home Screen by accident.

  • Back shows “Press Back again to exit · Select to stay”. Press Back again to leave; your music keeps playing on the Home Screen, as usual.
  • Select, an arrow, a swipe on the touch surface or moving to another item dismisses it. Play/Pause plays or pauses and leaves the notice up. Left alone, it goes after about 3 seconds.
  • Android TV has no setting for this: while music plays, Back at the top of a tab always asks “Exit Lagu?”.

Speakers and sharing

Settings › Playback.

Network speakers (DLNA)

Lets Lagu play to DLNA and UPnP speakers on your network.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop · Android

When to change it. Turn it on if you have a network speaker or streamer, such as a WiiM.

  • Once it’s on, your speakers appear where you choose an output.
  • Loudness leveling is unavailable on a speaker. On Android, crossfade is too.
  • If a speaker drops out, Lagu doesn’t move the music to your computer’s speakers on its own, and desktop never reconnects to a speaker by itself when it starts.
  • It is marked experimental on desktop.

Google Cast

Lets Lagu play to Chromecast, Google TV and Nest speakers.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop
  • Experimental. It follows the same rules as Network speakers.
  • While casting there is no gapless playback, no equalizer and no leveling, and downloaded files don’t play.
  • Your Plex sign-in never reaches the Cast device.

Show what you’re playing on Discord

Shows the track you’re playing on your Discord profile.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop
  • Your profile shows the track, artist, album and a progress bar while music plays. Pausing clears it.

Album art from iTunes

Finds a cover for your Discord card. Shown while Discord sharing is on.

Default
On
Devices
Desktop

When to change it. Turn it off if you’d rather nothing about your music left your computer.

  • Discord can’t show artwork from your own Plex server, so Lagu looks the album up on Apple’s iTunes service and uses that cover. Only the artist, album and track names are sent.
  • With it off, the card shows the Lagu logo.

Downloads

Desktop: Settings › Playback › Downloads & storage. iPhone and iPad: Settings › Playback › Downloads. Android: Settings › Downloads.

Downloads keep music on your device so it plays without a connection. The TVs don’t download. Keeping a playlist in sync is set on the playlist itself.

Download quality

Chooses the quality new downloads are saved at.

Default
Original
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Pick a bitrate if space is tight and MP3 is good enough for offline listening.

  • Original saves the file exactly as it is on your server. 320, 256, 192 and 128 kbps save an MP3 at that bitrate.
  • Only future downloads change. Music you have already downloaded keeps its quality.

Download location

Also shown as Location

Chooses where downloads are kept.

Default
Lagu’s own folder on desktop. Internal storage on Android.
Devices
Desktop · Android with an SD card

When to change it. If your main drive is filling up and you have more room elsewhere.

  • Desktop: pick a folder and Lagu makes a “Lagu Downloads” folder inside it. Choose Move my downloads there to bring your music along, or Start fresh there to leave it where it is. Lagu restarts to finish.
  • If that folder is missing when Lagu starts, for example on an unplugged drive, Lagu uses its default folder until you reconnect the drive and restart.
  • Android: the choice appears only when your phone has an SD card. New downloads go to the new place and existing ones stay put. Pause downloads to change it. Downloads are removed if you uninstall Lagu.

Download over Wi-Fi only

Keeps downloads off mobile data.

Default
On
Devices
iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Turn it off if you have plenty of mobile data and want downloads to finish anywhere.

  • Downloads wait, then carry on by themselves when you’re back on Wi-Fi.
  • iPhone also waits on a personal hotspot and in Low Data Mode. Android also waits on Wi-Fi networks marked as metered.
  • Streaming isn’t affected. See Preload on cellular.

Manage storage

Also shown as Downloads & storage

Shows what is downloaded and how much space it takes.

Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android
  • The space your downloads use, the space left on the device, and each downloaded album, playlist or set of songs. Kept-synced items are marked.
  • Remove any item to free its space. Desktop also has Clear all downloads, which asks first.

Streaming cache

Recently played and preloaded tracks, kept for instant replay.

Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad
  • The cache holds up to 1.5 GB or 60 tracks and makes room by dropping the oldest.
  • Clear cache frees the space. It never removes your downloads or the track that is playing.
  • Android keeps its own cache of up to 1 GB, cleared when you sign out, with nothing to set.

Verify downloads

Checks every downloaded file and downloads again any that are damaged.

Devices
Desktop

When to change it. Press it if a downloaded track skips, cuts off or won’t play.

  • FLAC files with a built-in checksum are fully checked. Other original files are compared with your Plex server. Converted MP3s get a quick check.
  • You see progress and a Cancel button while it runs, then a result: all good, repaired, failed, or couldn’t check. A server that can’t answer means “couldn’t check”, never “bad”.
  • A damaged file keeps playing until its replacement has finished downloading.
  • It only runs when you press it.

Scrobbling

Desktop, iPhone and iPad: Settings › Playback › Scrobbling. Android and the TVs: Settings › Scrobbling.

Scrobbling keeps a history of what you listen to on Last.fm or ListenBrainz. Each device signs in for itself.

Last.fm

Sends your listens to Last.fm.

Default
Not connected
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Connect it if you keep your listening history on Last.fm.

  • You approve Lagu on last.fm’s own site, so your password never reaches Lagu. On a TV, scan the code with your phone, or sign in on the TV (your password is used once and never saved).
  • A track counts once it is longer than 30 seconds and you have heard half of it or 4 minutes, whichever comes first.
  • If your Plex account already sends plays to Last.fm, connecting it here too counts every play twice.
  • Listens that can’t be sent right away wait and go out later.

ListenBrainz

Sends your listens to ListenBrainz.

Default
Not connected
Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV
  • Copy your user token from your ListenBrainz settings page and paste it into Lagu.
  • It counts plays the same way as Last.fm.

Pausing and disconnecting

Each connected service has a switch and a Disconnect button.

Devices
Desktop · iPhone & iPad · Android · Apple TV & Android TV
  • The switch pauses a service without signing out. Listens already waiting are kept.
  • Disconnect removes the account and any listens still waiting for it.
  • Signing out of Plex doesn’t disconnect your scrobbling accounts.

Remote

Settings › Remote. On Android TV, Settings › Lagu Remote.

Lagu Remote lets your phone control the music playing on a computer or a TV over your home network. The computer or TV hosts, and the phone controls. No Plex Pass needed.

Let my phone control this computer

Also shown as Allow phone control, Lagu Remote

Lets a paired phone control this computer or TV.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop · Apple TV & Android TV

When to change it. Turn it on to pick music from your phone while it plays on your computer or TV.

  • Lagu has to stay open on the computer or TV for your phone to reach it. Apple TV only accepts control while Lagu is on screen.
  • On Linux, your firewall may need to allow Lagu. The Remote tab shows how.
  • If your computer has several network addresses, for example from a VPN, pick the one your phone can reach under Address your phone connects to.

Pair a phone

Connects a phone to this computer or TV. Shown while phone control is on.

Devices
Desktop · Apple TV & Android TV
  • Scan the QR code with Lagu on your phone, or type the 6-digit code. The code lasts 3 minutes.
  • Check that the security code on the computer or TV matches the one on your phone.

Paired devices and Reset pairing

Also shown as Paired Phones

The phones that can control this computer or TV.

Devices
Desktop · Apple TV & Android TV
  • Remove a phone to sign it out straight away. It has to pair again to control playback.
  • Reset pairing removes every phone and makes a new security certificate, so every phone has to scan a new code.

Computers

Also shown as Paired devices, Playback on

The computers and TVs this phone can control.

Devices
iPhone & iPad · Android
  • Add a computer or TV by scanning its code, or by typing its address and code.
  • Tap one to move playback to it, and This iPhone or Move playback here to bring it back.
  • If the computer uses a different Plex server, you can still control playback but not browse your library on it.

Lock-screen Remote control

Shows the computer’s music on your phone’s lock screen while you control it.

Default
On
Devices
iPhone & iPad · Android

When to change it. Turn it off if you don’t want remote playback on your lock screen.

  • On iPhone, other audio on the phone pauses while it is on.
  • On Android it also shows in notifications, on headset buttons and in Android Auto.

Desktop

Settings › Appearance › Desktop.

Keyboard shortcuts

Opens a sheet with every keyboard shortcut. You can also press ? anywhere.

Devices
Desktop

Notify when the track changes

Shows a system notification when a new track starts.

Default
Off
Devices
Desktop

When to change it. Turn it on if Lagu often plays in the background and you want to know what came on.

  • The notification shows the cover, title and artist, without a sound.
  • It only appears while Lagu is in the background, and once per track.

A few things on desktop aren’t settings. Closing the window hides Lagu to the tray or menu bar, media keys always work (and MPRIS on Linux), and Lagu doesn’t start itself at login.

Updates

Desktop: Settings › Plex › Updates. Phones and TVs update through their app stores.

Check for Updates

Checks for a new version now.

Devices
